A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 215

Day 215: “Co-Author”

If you ever need a laugh,

Ask your partner for help

I said my brain was tired and I needed help

coming up with today’s poem

Please enjoy this poem à la Jeremy

“It’s bright outside

It makes me light

inside

So much that I can glide

And that also gives me pride

This is the best poem ever

You couldn’t even pull it with a lever”

It did make me laugh

It did make me smile

But perhaps poetry really isn’t for everybody

“You know you really shouldn’t talk about yourself like that”

A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 210

Day 210: “Freedom”

They say comparison

makes you feel like shit

Well, that’s not exactly the saying

I’m paraphrasing

I’ve been a bit stuck

And a bit jealous

of what others have accomplished

What freedom they have

Financial

Creative

And otherwise

I’d love to have the freedom to do whatever I want

Be whoever I want

Like truly

Wouldn’t we all?

Why can’t we have that?

What do we have to do to have that?

I’m actually asking

Because, believe me,

I’m trying

A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 181

Day 181: “Creative Process”

I feel it

Tingling

I have an idea

I’ll sit with it

I’ll think

I’ll think

And I’ll think

And I’ll think

Then I might write something down

The remnants

The outskirts

Of the idea

Nothing fully developed

Not committing

Not wedded to anything

Not far enough to know if it sucks

Or if it’s brilliant

I’ll live in that space

The in-between

Just starting to form the ball

Kneading it

And kneading it

Until it’s overworked

Cracked and dry

Then I’ll stop thinking

Move on

Never even turning the oven on

Until another idea wriggles itself free

And into my line of sight

A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 157

Day 157: “Inside My Brain”

Crickets

My brain is currently crickets

Well actually it’s bees

And flies

Swarming

There’s noise and wind and stickiness and

It’s a ruckus

The sun is shining, though

There’s open fields

Wildflowers

Swarming and buzzing and swarming and buzzing

And the occasional cricket

When I lose my train of thought

Or lose the inspiration

Flies and swarming bees

I’d like quiet

And to not be at risk of being bitten or stung

A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 142

Day 142: “Each Poem”

Each poem I write

Is a love letter to myself

It’s permission to explore

To dive deep

To be unapologetic

To be myself

It’s a chance to try something new

Write something new

To go back in time

To look to the future

All while being completely in the present

To escape into this moment

To know myself

To get to know myself

To have fun

Be fearless

Put myself out there

Be okay with putting myself out there

To be silly

Carefree

To learn to relax

Not take myself so seriously

Poetry is a magic wand

A powerful tool

I wonder who I’ll be when this is done

A Poem a Day: a Series – Day 139

Day 139: “The Power of Art”

Art is subjective, yes

But that doesn’t make it less powerful

Something doesn’t have to make sense to others

For it to be meaningful to you

And something doesn’t have to make sense to you

For it to be meaningful to others

Art has the power to transform

And horrify

Move

And offend

It can bring out emotion

And indifference

What a powerful thing
